A housewife was shot to death and two others were injured at Pekua upazila in Cox’s Bazar district early Monday.
Deceased Selina Akter, 45, was the wife of Faridul Alam of Budhamajhir Ghona area in Barbakia union under the upazila.
Two injured persons –Nazmus Sakib, 23, student of University of Chittagong, and Saiful Islam– are undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Of them, Sakib’s condition is critical.
Locals said Nurul Islam Gong and Muhammad Hossain Gong had been at loggerheads over a piece of land.
Fariduil Alam said a group of miscreants launched an attack on Nurul Islam Gong’s house at early hours.
While leaving the spot, gangs tried to take three cows of Faridul. As his wife intercepted them, they opened fire on her, leaving her dead on the spot.
Miscreants also opened fire on Sakib and Saiful as they came out of their houses after hearing gunshots.
Pekua Police Station inspector (investigation) Saifur Rahman Mazumdar said the body was recovered and sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.
Locals, however, caught two persons –Mohamadul Karim amd Mufizur Rahman—while they were fleeing the spot, and handed over to police.
